Dynaudio Music 7 – All-in-One Aktiv-Lautsprecher-System

What’s Music?

Music is a range of four intelligent wireless multiroom speakers. They all have intelligent features that automatically adapt to the room they’re in, their position in that room and to the musical tastes of their users.

What’s so special about the range?

You hardly have to do anything to get up and running, or to make it sound like it should once it’s switched on. It contains intelligent technology that adapts the speaker’s performance to its position in the room (whether that’s against a wall, in a corner or in free space), to the ambient noise level (changing both volume and tone to ensure all musical details are heard as they should), and to the user’s lifestyle via intelligent Music Now playlists.

How do I get started?

Set-up is done via the free Dynaudio app for iOS and Android: connect it to your Wi- Fi network, link your TIDAL account (all the speakers in the family come with a free 90-day trial), choose your favourite artists and music genres to build your personal Music Now profile, and that’s it.

The app walks you through the process in a friendly chat-style interface rather than forcing you to delve too deeply into your phone’s settings.

Once you’ve created your profile, you can assign it to a preset on the speaker (Music 1 and Music 3 use one button to toggle between each of their five presets, while Music 5 and Music 7 have dedicated buttons for each one). Then, next time you want to listen to music, just press your Music Now preset. The speaker connects to TIDAL and uses your profile to pick tracks it knows you like already, or ones it knows you will like once you hear them. There are ‘Like’ and ‘Dislike’ buttons in the app to let you fine-tune the selection, too.

You can create multiple profiles for yourself, or for other people – so you can add different moods with different genres and artists, for example, or have special Music Now playlists for kids’ parties, friends that come over and so on.

It’s also possible to assign albums, artists, single songs, internet radio stations and more to the presets – making it behave like the ultimate radio. Just with no annoying DJs, and one that only plays stuff you actually want to hear.

There’s also Spotify Connect on board, as well as aptX Bluetooth and a 3.5mm input – so unless you’re using an 8-track tape machine with DIN outputs, you’ll be able to connect to it.

Where’s the ‘on’ button?

Music 1 and Music 3 have buttons on their lower flanks... Music 5 and Music 7 turn on as if by magic, using proximity sensors. Just wave your hand over them, press a preset and away you go.

How do I use the intelligent performance optimisation?

You can choose between ‘Off’ and ‘Intelligent’ in the app. Once you switch them on, you’ll hear the volume and tone change to suit the conditions that currently exist in the room and for the speaker’s position. If you move the speaker around and listen carefully, you’ll be able to hear it adjust itself for each new position.

In practice, though, you probably won’t notice the tech working. It simply reacts to the new situation to keep the performance consistent. Turn the intelligent features off, though, and you’ll hear what they’ve been doing.

And it isn’t simply a ‘loudness’ control or a bass-cut filter. The technology optimises volume and tone simultaneously, and on the fly, by sensing the room through an on- board microphone and calculating as it goes. (Don’t worry, though – it isn’t listening to conversations, and it isn’t collecting any data.)

What are the key tech specs?

There are four speakers in the family. All are active (each driver has a dedicated high-performance class-D amplifier specifically tuned to match it).

Music 1 is battery- and mains-powered. It has one 4in woofer and a 1in soft-dome tweeter. Total power is 80W (each driver has its own 40W amplifier), and its battery lasts up to eight hours.

Music 3 is battery- and mains-powered. It has one 5in woofer and two 1in soft-dome tweeters. Total power is 120W (each driver has its own 40W amplifier), its battery lasts up to eight hours, and the unit comes with a remote control.

Music 5 is mains-powered. It has one 5in woofer, two 3in midrange drivers and two 1in soft-dome tweeters. It delivers a total of 250W (each driver has its own 50W amplifier), and the unit comes with a remote control.

Music 7 is mains-powered. It has two 5in woofers, two 3in midrange drivers and two 1in soft-dome tweeters. Total power is 300W (each driver has its own 50W amplifier), and the unit comes with a remote control.

All the speakers in the range can stream via Wi-Fi, Spotify Connect, aptX Bluetooth and Apple AirPlay, and can access DLNA devices on users’ home networks. They all have USB inputs for iOS audio and charging iOS devices, and can accept 3.5mm analogue inputs. The Music 5 and Music 7 add digital optical inputs to the mix (both support signals up to 24-bit/96kHz), while the Music 7 also has an HDMI input with Audio Return Channel to turn it into a soundbar.

Up to six speakers can be connected at a time, and arranged into multiroom groups or controlled individually from the Dynaudio app.

Materials matter

All the speakers use Dynaudio’s proprietary MSP cone material in their woofers and midrange drivers (the same material used across our entire range, right up to the Evidence Platinum series). Their soft-dome tweeters are based on our high-end speakers. And it’s all been tuned by the same team who work on our money-no- object hi-fi speakers and no-compromise pro studio systems.

Each one is available in Light Grey, Dark Grey, Red and Blue cloth finishes, custom- made by the acclaimed Danish textile house Gabriel, and is constructed from honest, high-quality materials – including a one-piece brushed aluminium surround on the Music 5 and Music 7. It’s a product built to last – both in terms of style and wear-and-tear. The grille cloths on the Music 5 and Music 7 are interchangeable too, so you can change the look as you change your tastes. Both the Music 5 and Music 7 can be wall-mounted using a dedicated steel wall-bracket.
